 Vito bass playing flat
Author: alanporter

I have the basic low Eb Vito bass clarinet. It is in excellent physical shape, with good well sealing pads, fully pushed in joints. Every note plays a whole tone flat on my Korg tuner. Can anyone suggest how I can correct this ?

Sounds fishy to me. Could the problem be that you are not accounting for the transposing instrument? The tuner is in C and the clarinet is one tone lower, so if you play a C it comes out Bb on the tuner. Other than that, is the neck original to the instrument? If it is from another instrument, it could be longer than the Vito neck, resulting in the kind of problem you are describing.

Thank you, you have shown me what a dimwit I am. I was expecting the tuner to show clarinet notes rather than concert pitch notes. Old age is my excuse !
