I "inherited" three used mouthpieces with the 1936 Buffet I recently acquired. It was suggested I need a mpc to go with a big bore clarinet which the Buffet evidently is. These are what I received. Can you tell me anything about any of them?
Selmer HS*
no brand name that I can find B45
Goldtone 2
Thank you for any help you're able to provide.

The Selmer HS* is a popular standard piece.
The B45 is a Vandoren B45, the most popular piece for decades, and still very popular.
The Goldentone is a student piece, probably plastic. I think the “2” is the tip opening (as opposed to a larger “3”).
You can probably use any of them. Check the rails and tip for any damage. The best thing to do is to try them. The B45 should take a softer reed than the HS*. One may provide better intonation over the whole horn (from note to note) than the other. One may be closer to A=440 than the other.
If they are older pieces the published dimensions for the model may not match yours exactly, because they were finished by hand, and they all play differently anyhow.
My understanding is that most mouthpieces are still “large bore” pieces. When horns went to small bore, people kept playing the same mouthpieces with large chambers, and they came up with reverse taper barrels to compensate.
