Hi to everyone and hope you are all fine during these hard times.
So recently I have purchased a buffet mouthpiece from a seller claiming to be a chedeville blank due to the fact it has one line up three down, France to the left and C crown to the right. I’ve done a lot of search one here but was left confused as some claim to be the real deal however few say that it ain’t. Was hoping someone might be able to help to say if this might actually be the chedeville blank.

I have a used C 1 line up 3 lines down Buffet Crampon logo in between that plays very nicely, just pleasantly resistant but very nice tone. It was not said to be a Cheddeville blank at purchase. Used on a Buffet instrument I think you'll be pleased, but sound is so personal. Two years ago I probably wouldn't have liked this mp as much but I'm 'evolving' slowly; today it is one of my favorites.

I bought it as it seems to be in good condition and also it didn’t break the bank so though I would try it out.
Do you know from what year these could possibly be ?

Contact Brad Behn. He probably knows more about the old vintages than just about anyone. I have seen lots of things over the years that are claimed to be Cheds, some accurately and some not. There are also lots of vintages of Cheds and design, quality and material can vary significantly.

I have a Buffet C Crown and a similar Evette & Schaeffer C. After touching up the facings, they both turned out to be delightful.
Just as Djudy mentioned above, they're pleasantly resistant. Mine both yield a dark but focused tone with just the right presence of high overtones.
Mine give particularly fine results on a Ridenour RCP-576BC, but also work well on older wide-bore models such as the B&H 8-10 and the Bundy 1400.
My research indicates that they are a late Chedeville design, and probably significantly different from the earlier Chedevilles that are highly prized today.
Facings on these are often said to have not been applied with great care. This was absolutely true of the two in my collection.
No matter who made these and when, I think they stand on their own as a fine vintage mouthpiece that's worth a try. I hope yours turns out to be a gem!

It seems funny in a way that when I was a student in Philadelphia most of the more experienced clarinetists in the area, all of whom played and were devoted to Henri Chedeville's mouthpieces, considered the Buffet stock mouthpieces to be mouthpiece-shaped-doorstops.
I've read more recently that many of those mouthpieces were indeed Chedevilles (though I think produced by Charles Chedeville, who was still in France and supplied many of the blanks Henri used), probably, as Ursa suggests, badly faced. I've always found the stories (sometimes legends) about who used Chedeville blanks confusing, so someone else may have a more reliable version. LeLandaise was also somehow involved - either as a distributor or a supplier of Chedeville blanks, I forget which.
As someone else suggested, I think I remember seeing a fairly detailed accounting on Brad Behn's website. Since the topic has come up, I think I'll go back and review it myself.

If I had to guess, I’d say it is a Riffault blank. Regardless, it being a Chedeville blank is completely meaningless.

I just compared my E&S C to two generations of common Riffaults: a "scrollwork" Noblet X3, and a later Noblet 2V with upper and lower ligature lines.
The E&S has a narrower chamber with different geometry, a shorter beak, shorter-length window, and is shorter overall compared to the Riffaults.
As with my C Crown, all three of these came with unplayable facings but turned out to be better-than-average players after refacing.

Hi,
I have both the C and the C crown and they play very well. Although I still prefer using a Borbeck 16 as my primary, either of these MPs would work in a pinch.
About 20 years ago, these MPs were in high demand and you might have to pay $60. I have not looked at the current going rate but I know I bought one for $20 from a stand mate as a real steal. She did not like it at all.

Thanks to you all that have taken the time to post on here.
I’m abit more relief that this might actually be a decent mouthpiece to play it with. Even though I only paid around 20 dollar for this it should be a good experience.
I’ve seen similar ones for sale online exactly the same that I just bought claimed to also be chedeville blanks going for a lot more and never had the courage to purchase one.
