The serious answer for me is that the Greenline is definitely the way to go.........for several reasons.
Naturally, it is impervious to changes in humidity. This keeps it free from the vagaries of swelling and contracting.
Then it is great for extremes of temperature. This material will not crack like wood under extreme temperature fluctuations. My favorite story was a frigid night in New England where my Air Force band just finished a concert and someone threw open the gymatorium door next to the band to load equipment. Suddenly there was a very loud "snapping" sound and one of the clarinets on a stand close to the door had a top joint with a massive fissure down the trill key side of the horn.
Finally, I like them because they hold their dimensions from the point of manufacture to include the roundness of the bore and the roundness of the tone holes (this CANNOT be said of wood......quite the contrary). I was very happy with the performance of my Greenline R13, and felt it was a very competitive sound only being just slightly different from its wooden counterpart in a direct side by side (and even there, just slightly).
Remember the price (same as the wood) is based on the time and care put into the manufacture of the horn to produce top performance of intonation and timbre. In fact the choice of wood was really only made because African Blackwood is incredibly hard, machines well, and holds the screws and posts properly.
