 Woodstone Ishimori Metal Ligature

Anyone has experience with these ligatures? Anyone has tried them with Legere European reed? Unlike other people I believe that ligatures actually do make a difference also on Legere reeds(they make similar differences like on cane reeds, I've experienced myself..)
and now I saw the Ishimoris, very interesting ligatures IMO..

Yes I have the yellow gold Ishimori. With cane it is fairly impressive, encouraging a robust sound (similar to the Silverstein sound). But I found it to be quite sensitive to placement. Prior to this ligature I was always able to count on ligatures sounding better a little lower on the stock. This one really wanted to be high up on the stock of the reed for some reason.



I can't say that I found much difference with this ligature against most of the other top expensive ligatures on plastic reeds. In the most recent test the only "standard" ligature that held up well was brass Scott that was custom made for German mouthpieces (like all Scott's it features bands that hold at the top and bottom of the reed stock).


Honestly the only ligature of metal, wood, or string that stands out to any degree with Legere was the ZAC Ligature. In the end though I found the one with the wooden plate to create a raspy sound that was not pleasant at high dynamic levels. The brass plate version was less raspy and quite good.



Of course they ALL pale in comparison (using Legere) to any of the all plastic ligatures (Luyben, Gigliotti, Robert Vinson, generic Chinese - no brand name given). Some crazy resonance going on that makes the combination with Legere a real winner.

Hi, you are quite busy with all the hardware ;-)

By coincidence I could get my hands on a cheap solid silver Ishimori ligature. It is really, really good and it will probably replace my Silverstein Cryo 4 that has been my main ligature for the past two years. And the Silverstein is not bad at all :-)

I have tried a lot of ligatures and on the moment I have 3 ligatures in my case so I can adapt my sound to different situations:

Silverstein Original Black
Lowest resistance, largest sound, a bit like the Luyben but better imo

Silverstein Cryo4
A bit more resistance, more focus, more overtones, better projection

Ishimori Solid Silver
More resistance, even more focus, even more overtones, excellent projection

BTW, I play on cane reeds

Jeroen! What reeds you play? On what mouthpiece? The solid silver Ishimori you found at good price on ebay? I really wonder If Ishimori is better than BG duo (LD). I've tried once the LD1 and I didn't like It at all, made my clarinet sound like saxophone, silver (LD) duo was quite better, at least was sounding like clarinet, just more bright.. I'm curious about the metal Ishimoris now but unfortunately they are quite expensive just to order a random one.. Due to LD1, now I'm afraid to try other golden ligatures, It was that bad change of sound to not on my likings..

The last 2 years I played the BD5 with Gonzalez reeds 3.25 and Vandoren V12 reeds 3.0 - 3.5. Now I am switching to a Selmer Focus with V12 2.5 - 3.0.

Yes, most of my ligatures I have found on the (Dutch) Ebay. Else they would be very expensive indeed. I don't know the BG duo.

Take care with all the advices, everyone is different and a ligature may work or not on a specific mpc/instrument. Best is to find out by yourself.

The BG Duo and Tradition are pretty good matches for the Legere European Signatures. The only issue is that the ligature actually covers the bottom of the reed when in place, so you cannot adjust the reed from the bottom in the last moments of securing the ligature in place. You therefore have to develop a "technique" to sliding the ligature on so that the butt of the reed is exactly where you need it as you slide these ligatures down in position.



Forgot to add that Ricardo Morales mentioned on a video where he spoke of his use of the Legere European Signatures that he uses both the Duo and Tradition.
