 Old Philadelphia Music Schools
Author: Bob Bernardo

Hey folks, I'm still trying to maybe find old recordings of Iggie Gennusa. I am wondering if he recorded anything at the old schools he taught at. Includes the New School of Music and the Philadelphia College of the Performing Arts. These schools don't seem to be around anymore. They probably merged with other schools or something. Any information might help. Thanks!

Bob, PCPA has become, through a couple of intervening steps, University of the Arts (UA or UArts), still on South Broad Street near the Academy of Music and the Kimmel Center.

The New School of Music merged in the mid-1980s with Temple University (TU Boyer College of Music and Dance) on Temple's main campus in North Philadelphia. I don't know anyone in the admin offices of either school any more, but a phone call may get you some leads to follow. Temple just opened a huge new library, which might house archival materials going back to the merger with New School.

I will ask a couple of people I know who at one time were connected with each school either as faculty or administration and see if they have any suggestions. I am friendly with one active clarinetist in the area who studied with Gennusa, I think at PCPA, who may know something about recordings.

Thank you so much Karl. Iggie taught at these 2 schools as well as Peabody in Baltimore. I'll check with Peabody and see if there are any recordings around still.

These top teachers always played recitals and hopefully had some recorded performances.

Thank you Karl and anyone else interested in this project. Paul has also tried by remastering a few CD's, but the quality just isn't there. The goal is to put these recordings up on youtube.
