I have a student who is going to be getting a Fobes Debut bass clarinet mouthpiece. What ligature would fit that mouthpiece and what strength Legere bass clarinet reed would be a good match? This student has played bass clarinet through high school and is now in college, but she had a horrible setup so the Debut will be a step up. Thanks for any help.

When I use a Legere Bass Clarinet reed, I usually use a #3. Soft enough to get a big sound, hard enough to play in the upper clarion and altissimo.
The Vandoren Optimum is a good choice and easy to come by. I also use a Rovner dark, especially for those slow, soft solos.

I second the Legere 3...though if I’m only playing bass clarinet, I prefer cane.

I use Legere tenor sax studio cut. For me, they play much better than the bass clarinet reeds.

Try Playnick "Fun" mouthpiece! Works well with legeres.
