The Vienna State Opera hired Andrea Gotsch for their clarinet section.
It's great to see the once male-only Vienna clarinet section hire a woman.
There are a few Youtube videos of her playing. She is a Fantastic talent in all regards.

Very good news, but she still has to get though a trial period, I believe. She is also a conductor and comes from Bolzano, Italy, where many people speak both Italian and German (with some English too).
In Germany, the Augusburg Orchestra hired Bettina Aust as principal clarinet. She studied with both Sabine Meyer and with Pascal Moragues in France. Julia Maiershofter is another European woman clarinetist who may turn up in an orchestral position soon.

-seabreeze,
I forgot about the probation period. Do you know if it's one or two years?
Cheers,
Robert

I don't know how long the trial period for the Vienna State Opera Orchestra is, but in the Vienna Philharmonic, another Italian player, flutist Silvia Careddu, was recently dropped from the orchestra after a year and a few months. On the brighter side, violinist Albena Danailova passed her trial period and became one of the three concertmasters in the Vienna Philharmonic--the first woman to play that role.

Not forgetting the wonderful bassoonist Sophie Dervaux (Dartigalongue) who ascended to membership of the Vienna Phil. last year.

-seabreeze,
Excellent to hear about the concertmaster position.
From what little I know about the Vienna Phil. memberships, it's by invitation to members of the Vienna State Opera orchestra. As you probably know the Vienna Phil was in the news a lot a few years ago over little or no women members. I always wondered about that during the New Year's Day concert and the seemingly obvious camera shots of the women in the group in recent years.
Cheers,
Robert
