Hey y’all,
I’m looking at the Rose 40 Studies book, and I need some help with no. 2. Got any tips for going back and forth between Eb and Bb (lower register)? I’ve tried using the fork key, doesn’t work too well, as well as the side key, which works a bit better but still is wonky. Any help?

Try the 1 and 1 fingering for Eb (top finger of left hand, top finger of right hand).

You have a choice, really, between the 1-and-1 that Beth suggests or the RH side key. The fork (LH "sliver" key) is the least practical of the three possible fingerings.
It may be that the 1+1 doesn't work on your clarinet if the bridge keys aren't adjusted correctly. If that turns out to be the case, you might want to have them adjusted (it's a very easy, quick repair).
The other problem is that on many clarinets (but not all) 1+1 is sharp - more on some clarinets than others. If that's the case on your instrument, then especially the Eb that starts the whole section of Eb arpeggios at bar 11 would be better with RH side - starting the passage on a clearly sharp note can be jarring. The rest can be done with 1+1 if it isn't outrageously sharp.
You should become fluent with both the RH side key and 1+1, because they're both very useful for passages involving Eb and Bb or lower. There are times when 1+1 is convenient and other times when it isn't, even in passages involving Bbs.

I've said it before that the "1 and 1" is NOT a fingering for throat Eb.......not in tune by any definition. As an alternate for trills or some sort of fast burst of notes that would be acceptable, but only then.

And yet late in the Galper beginner book he has included several exercises using the Eb 1 and 1 in conjunction with Bb. On my clarinet, to my beginner ear, the tuning doesn't differ significantly from other Eb fingerings.
Thanks for the reminder, though, to pull out my tuner and compare the three choices. My ear could be letting me down.

I also have a question for the Bb Clarinet. I've a trill chart that I printed on my inkjet and the fingering is NOT clear. I want to learn how to trill from the altissimo F to the altissimo G. I see this in the 1Bb Clarinet part to the Fillmore "March Ponderso." Any advice?
