 Clarinet section Lengths
Author: Ben Shaffer
Date:   2019-02-08 04:53

I came across a Plastic Yamaha Clarinet years ago that had shorter than normal left and right Hand sections and then the Bell and barrel themselves were slightly longer than what I've normally seen.
The Clarinet however had the same overall length as my other B Flat Clarinets. Has any body else run into this?
Any particular brands have models like this?
I think Ive also seen a Normandy with a longer barrel
Or could these be A Clarinets?

The length of the body of a clarinet, and therefore the barrel and bell, may vary by manufacturer and model, but the overall length is usually the same for a particular bore diameter.

Rossi models generally have shorter barrels and longer bells, and some Yamaha models have shorter barrels, than what may be considered "normal." For example, the length of my normal Buffet R13 barrel is 65mm, but for my Rossis, 61 mm for the French bore and 60.5 mm for the LR bore. (I've never bothered comparing bell lengths.)

There are likely not a few others, and this is not at all uncommon.

B.
