 Suggestions for Otto Link refacing

When I got my Buffet 19xxx Bb it came with a treasure chest of antique mouthpieces, including a "Qualite Superieure" crystal (the QS is engraved on the bottom of the metal tenon ring), a rubber mpc with a metal table (it's totally warped -- how ironic, as the metal table was to avoid that), and an Otto Link Reso-Chamber mpc (serial no. 1022) with "J.A." on the table. It, too, is warped.

This is an interesting question because it contains a prejudice on my part: I am hesitating to send it to any of my usual refacing people, because I think classical refacers (1.04, 36) might not "get" the Otto Link. In this 20th anniversary year of the bulletin board, this type of prejudice is something that Dan Leeson would have spotted in a moment (is Dan still lurking around?). He was always being the Devil's advocate with ideas like this.

Any refacers out there who might be better at working on an Otto Link than a Kaspar? Thanks.

Sadly Dan Leeson died some little while back, within the past 6 months from memory.

While I think any of the regular candidates out there can do a good job, It seems that your concern might be that they will try to put a classical style facing on.

You might try

He seems to do more work for doublers and jazz players.

I have worked on only 3 Resos. One was a J.A. that looked pretty original. It had a 1.02 tip and 30L. A slightly elliptical curve. The owner wanted it more open and longer to match a Kanter curve spec he gave me.

I think it comes down to what you are looking for and what your refacer can do. I don’t think you need someone who understands J.A.s unless it has been messed up and you are looking to restore it.

The other Links I have worked on did have different facings and slightly different baffle shapes. But I’m not sure they were original facings. They were Regular Links and Link Resos.
