I want to replace the thumb rest on my BandH egeware clarinet to a thumb rest with a strap ring.
Does anybody have suggestions as to what make or size would fit
Thanks

Barring an exact match, any competent repairman can drill holes for the new one (and configuration may mean not having to make the placement of the thumb rest slightly higher or lowe), and fill the old in a way that will be virtually invisible.

You could always have a nickel silver or brass ring hard soldered to the back of the existing thumbrest on your Edgware (have the ring made from 2mm diameter brass or nickel silver rod) and that will save having to find and fit a new one.

For that be sure that the job is done using silver solder. This is a much hotter process but holds much better.

I you are going to fit an adjustable thumbrest, it will have to be located above the existing screw holes by around 10mm or thereabouts, but not so far north that the screw holes go through the socket. Remember the socket - if in doubt, measure the depth of the socket and mark the depth on the outside just to be on the safe side and if you have to drill that near to it, drill to a distance of at least 2mm away from the base of the socket.

If you live north of Los Angeles I'll do it for free.

Next week I'll be on tour, the San Francisco area, San Jose. Send an email if you are near that area. 7 concerts. It's a 15 minute job to do it right.

Bob,
Where are you playing? I live in the mid-peninsula near Stanford...
