 barrel for B&H 2-20
Author: Rikie

I hope someone can give me an advice in what barrel I can use for my 2-20.
I have my barrel made shorter because the tone was to low. Now it's the end of shortening that barrel, so what barrel is recommended to get a higher tone.

The standard length barrel for the Regent, Edgware (which the 2-20 is), Emperor and Imperial 926 is 67mm, Shorter barrels will make the throat notes incredibly sharp on B&H clarinets and they're designed to play in tune with themselves using the standard length barrel (67mm) pulled out by around 1mm at a temperature of 19 to 20°C.

The B&H barrels marked 'SHORT' on the back are 62mm and they're often listed on eBay.

You may also want to try a mouthpiece that plays on the sharp side to see if that helps.

I have both an Edgware and a Symphony 1010 . I also have 62.6, 64.6 and 66.9 barrels for them. I have learned that mouthpieces and reeds are far more effective in improving brightness , fullness and quality of sound than changing barrels. Both of these clarinets are very fussy about embouchure. Simply switching reeds requires different embouchure to obtain anything other than noise.Regardless of what barrel , mouthpiece, reed and embouchure combination I use both clarinets are far darker in tone than other clarinets. They seem to be designed for people that prefer the dark side of the clarinet world. I enjoy their difference from other clarinets but I would not choose either of them as my primary clarinet.
