 Penzel Mueller Dynatone need help

Hello. I'm a long time lurker on this board. I repair/restore old clarinets as a hobby. I've learned a great deal from reading the posts and discussions on this forum.

I've recently acquired a Penzel-Mueller Dynatone clarinet for restoration. It looks like it will restore nicely. I do have a problem. When disassembling the clarinet I found two of the pivot screws frozen in place. I managed, at last, to remove one of the screws (with some damage to the screw head) but the second is more of a problem. In my zeal, I managed to twist the screw head off. I am now soaking the post in a solution of alum and warm water to dissolve the remaining bit of screw (I learned that trick here, btw.)

I am going to need to replace the two screws, but nothing I have on hand fits the instrument. I was wondering/hoping if someone on this board would have a P-M Dynatone parts clarinet or access to screws that would fit it.

I don't expect to get anything for free, but I am on a limited budget. If anyone could help, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you.

David

I have no way of measuring thread size, but from an older thread on this forum, I found that Penzel-Mueller used #1-64 thread size. The screws are very pointy.

Well, the alum method of dissolving steel screws really works. It took forever, though.

I could still use two Penzel-Mueller compatible screws to be able to continue with the repair/restoration. If anyone can help with screws or an old parts Dynatone that would be great.

Thanks.

David...about how old is your Dynacore? I have an old P-M stencil that isn't worth fixing; perhaps you could part it out to fix up yours.

I couldn't say for sure. From the case, which I suspect is original, I'd put it somewhere from the late 40s to the 50s.

David...
I've had some limited luck in finding tiny screws from watch repair techs, makers. If you're looking for a #1-64 screw, it might be worth a phone call.

@Ursa, would be interested in about the P-M stencil you mentioned.

@ClarinetRobt, never thought of watch repair. I haven't been able to find an appropriate screw locally, but searching online has been interesting. Lots of tools and other supplies that would apply to clarinet repair in general.Thanks.
