The left pinky "f" key on my soprano clarinet has some play in it. How can it be repaired ?

It almost always has play because of the mechanics. A good tech can tighten it up, but it's hard to get perfect. It probably needs foot cork added because it gets squished over time (or, it may have fallen off). If the pivot points are loose that can be fixed too.

Ok. Thanks. Using a hole punch I obtained a small dot from a 3x5 card and shimmed the cork.

With the LH F/C lever you want the shim to be made of as hard a material as possible. Cork just compresses to quickly and is squidgy.

If the clearance between the LH lever and the F/C operating arm is too great I always shim them by soldering with brass or nickle silver material down to about 10 thou and then just add a thin teflon shim for quietness and to give near zero play.

This set up holds it's adjustment for a long time and gives a nice "snappy" action

If the problem is the gap between left F/C lever and right F/C key (and not as a result of missing or too thin bumper cork on the F/C lever), then when time and budget allow it, I do pretty much the same as Caroline Smale wrote, except a fraction larger gap and usually prefer to not use only teflon.
