James Campbell & Gryphon Trio play Messiaen
Author: Roxann

I had the pleasure of attending a chamber orchestra concert last night that featured James Campbell on the clarinet playing with the Gryphon Trio from Canada. One of the pieces they played was Olivier Messiaen's Quatuor pour la fin du temps. Mr. Campbell explained the story behind the composing of this piece and explained what to listen for in each of the 8 movements. Then he and the trio proceeded to play this 50 minute piece to perfection. It was deeply moving. If you ever have the opportunity to hear this group perform, do so!
