Well I played the Michael Lomax mouthpieces last summer, I tried about 6 of them. I played some of them at IMS in Chicago, then the next day met with Greg Smith and ended up buying one of his mouthpieces. One thing I found when playing the Lomax mouthpieces, was that ALOT of sound was produced. However, an almost, saxy quality was produced. Too much so for my taste. I would Love them possibly for more of a Jazz mouthpiece.
One thing i also must state is that these were just a few of his mouthpieces. I was able to try the Aria, and the standard model mouthpieces. However, if i was to get a truly well crafted mouthpiece, i would travel to I believe it is Springfield, MO and meet with mr Lomax and have him fit a mouthpiece to me. Larry Maxey, the clarinet profesor at KU in Lawrence plays on a Lomax mouthpiece, one that he picked with Mr. Lomax himself. So i would recommend going to meet Lomax to find the Truly good mouthpiece. This is the case with any other mouthpiece maker. Be it Hawkins, Smith, Bay, etc.....
Great prizes for the competition though Mark

I've tried both Lomax classic and symphony and I have to say that I really didn't like them. Classical model didn't project as much as my Grabner AW-personal and wasn't even as dark. And I have to agree with you that they are not focused specially the Symphony. It projected way to much and I don't think anyone needs to play that loud. If you really need to reach at the back of a large hall I would recoment BAY mouthpieces.
