On a major internet auction site, there's a Beifang Ebonite Eb for sale for $80. It's coming from Western Europe. I've never heard of the brand, but seems too good to be true. I've quizzed Tom Ridenour about producing an Eb. Unfortunately, and I completely understand his point, there's not enough demand to justify the R&D for a profitable Eb.
You guys have any experience with the brand? Quality? Consistency?
For $80 it might worth a stab in the dark and see what happens...otherwise I'll make a lamp out of it.

My first Eb was a similar Chinese thing that I bought new for $90. The keys bent if you barely touched them, and don't even ask about the horrendous tuning.
I used it during my undergrad to practice my audition music on a tiny, to-scale instrument and when I made it, used the school's R13.
Try finding an older wooden Noblet or something similar on eBay. You will be way happier spending $250 for something that is of better quality than having an $80 lamp-to-be.
Jmho!

(just for kicks - "Beifang" means, in German, "bycatch", ie collateral damage fish.)
