Harpo Marx squeaking on the clarinet!
Author: PeterinToronto 2017

Hi everyone,

I seem to recall a scene where Harpo is standing next to an 'open' elevator shaft holding a clarinet, and as he pretends to fall in, makes a squeaking ruckus on his way 'down'.

There was an old post with a couple of Youtube clips, but these were removed at some point.

Does anyone know which movie this scene might be from?

Thanks a lot!

This was in the movie The Cocoanuts from 1929. It was one of the first sound movies ever made. It is interesting to note that Harpo is wearing a red wig, which he wore on stage. He switched to a lighter wig in later films as they decided it looked better on film.

You can also see him playing in this clip with Milton Berle.
