 Lyre Loose !
Author: Ben Shaffer

Just got a a new clarinet, or actually used.
Its a Yamaha YCL20.
Went to play a Church Funeral today and brought my Clarinet Lyre along to put the Music in.
To make a long story short the round ring fit around the lower section ring, but would not fully tighten up. This was a major pain as it kept tilting when I put the music book in.
It just seems like the screw is just a little to short.
The lyre worked good and tight with my other 2 clarinets.
Could anyone tell me what the solution might be?
Can you get a longer screw with the finger grip someplace?
I actually have a second Lyre and tried that one when I got home, but that one did not work either :(

It seems the ring of the Yamaha is smaller in outer diameter than those of your other clarinets. However, to protect the ring on my clarinet against scratches from the lyre I glued a piece of rubber band at the inside of the lyre ring. This should also fix your problem since the inner diameter of the lyre ring is diminished because of the thickness of the rubber.

BTW, I also put two small pieces of rubber tube over the lyre clips, thus giving them a more secure grip of the music book.

Cork glued inside the lyre ring is another alternative to rubber and can be easily adjusted for best fit.

had a loose ring on this tenon. When I corrected that it took care of the Lyre issue
