Dear all,
I am working on Finzi's 5 Bagatelles. For the last movement Fughetta, I am using these standard fingerings for the altissimo F# and G:
F#
Th r | 0 x 0 | 0 0 0 Ab/Eb
G
Th r | 0 x 0 | x x 0 Ab/Eb
The semitone interval sounds too wide on my used plastic Yamaha. Are there better fingerings that I may use for the Fughetta?

There are literally a dozen workable fingerings for altissimo G.
The one you have chosen is notoriously sharp and often called 'Junior High School G' due to it being the first one that most clarinet players are taught.
In this rapid passage, coming from the F# fingering you have chosen, you could try:
TR oxo (+ rh side key #4) / ooo Ab/Eb
or
TR xoo/ooo Ab/Eb

The f# is low and the g is high, just look for other fingerings principally for the f# that also is insecure and weak. Why don't you try, by example, the trill fingerings?

The general answer to the question as you've asked it is that there (as Glenn wrote) many fingerings available, and each may tune differently *on your clarinet.*
It turns out that the "junior high" fingering for G happens (I cringe every time I read that name) to be the most in tune (in a vacuum - not necessarily in a context) on my Selmer 10Gs. More than that, the F#, which is indeed flat (per ldrs) on many clarinets, including most Buffets, is quite good on the 10G - it was one of the tweaks made with the original design.
The point is that you'll need to try a number of them and see what tunes best on *your* clarinet with your mouthpiece. "Better" in this case is very dependent on you and your equipment.
