Agreed about an older E13 potentially needing a bit more work (and cash) to get it in optimum condition. However, my very limited experience with the E13 clarinets is that I liked the older ones better than the newer ones. This is based on a sample size of only three, by the way.
Another option, which also probably requires a bit more money, is to look for an older professional instrument in good condition. I would factor in the costs for a check-up into that.
