I use one exclusively now - clarinets and saxes. Dial in 180 deg for shellac and 170 deg for hot melt type adhesive. I can do things I would find impossible with a flame, as that temperature does not damage felt, corks or pearls or lacquer.

I can heat and adjust pads on the body without removing any key work, and not bother if any other material is attached or close by.
