Has anyone tried using their clarinet to drive a pitch-to-midi converter?

I guess not, due to deluge of responses. But just for information:
I just got a Sonuus G2M "universal midi converter" which is about the size of a pack of cigarettes and works on a single AA battery. It has an external power source jack, as well as an audio input 1/4" jack, a midi output jack, and instrument thru 1/4" jack. There is also an 8-position dip switch to control what type of instrument (guitar, bass 1, bass 2, vocal), pitch bend limits power saver option, and midi port usage. Lights indicate power on, low battery, clipping, and midi activity. Midi out from the G2M is going to a rather old, cheap Yamaha digital keyboard.
Initially, the "clip" light came on whenever I played a note, and I had to wait a couple of seconds before changing notes. After inserting a direct box between the pickup and the G2M, and experimenting with the direct box settings, I can play notes and have them encoded and played out on the keyboard. But, there are lots of artifacts (unwanted grace notes, if you will) which I attribute to wind instrument pitch settling time. Playing in slap-finger style helps slightly. Higher end pitch-to-midi devices may have adjustable gate time or other features which might help, but will probably cause delay. But this isn't a high-end device.
A friend is looking in his bag of tricks for a compressor pedal, which I am thinking may level out the signal enough to help with the artifacts. If that doesn't come about, I may buy one - Behringer has one that lists for $25 which might at least tell me if I am on the right track.
If it works, I will look for a sound module.

The compressor in this situation did pretty the same as the direct box. I am getting a lot of artifacts (unwanted grace notes) so this particular device does not appear useful with a clarinet. Moving on.
