Can anyone recommend any one-handed (left or right hand only) clarinet music that they have played or heard? Nothing wrong with my hands (touch wood) but just an idea for a concert

Somewhere online - can't quickly find it now - I saw a video of Robert Spring playing a piece for two clarinets, Bb and A, simultaneously, holding one in one hand and the other in the other hand, both mouthpieces in his mouth. It was a decent stunt, and Spring managed it well, but didn't amount to music I could enjoy.

Nicola Orioli wrote a series of Solos (Day by Day). Soliloquio N. 10 is for left hand only with the right hand playing some sort of percussion at the discretion of the player. He posted this on Free-Scores.com. It and many other cool short pieces by Orioli are available at http://www.free-scores.com/download-sheet-music.php?pdf=22225

My interpretation is also there to listen to.

Here's the link to Robert Spring playing two clarinets, one hand each. The piece is "Double Life" by Eric Mandat, movement I:

The other movements are played with only one clarinet:

''...It was a decent stunt, and Spring managed it well, but didn't amount to music I could enjoy...''

Here's Roland Kirk in 1967 in Prague.

I saw him do this live when he once came to Melbourne. This performance is full of drama - it's no stunt.

By the way, I think Robert Spring's performance is quite entertaining.

Well, I used to play tenor and soprano saxophones together at quartet engagements for parties, one hand on each. Unisons are easy as long as they are for the upper half of the instruments, some very limited harmony can be found, and switching of octaves is easy. One can use one instrument as a drone, playing a simple melody with the other. Mostly it was improvised, often with the blues, in F, for example.

Tenor and alto saxophone can also be done and the harmony gets trickier, but the open fifths that can be played are powerful. Clarinets were less useful. I recall that some stage people did some pieces with two clarinets, however.

When I had a broken right wrist a composer called Penny Dodd wrote a duo for clarinet and left hand bass clarinet called "Doing the dishes". I could find that in a pile somewhere if you liked, the bass clarinet part was written so i could play it with my... left hand.
