 March in episode of Columbo

Could anyone identify the (lead) march in the episode of Columbo - By the Dawn's Early Light? It's the march that's played throughout the show (non-Souza, non-Bageley) and also the first one played at the end credits. Thanks, as this has been driving me crazy... for years.

Is it the march at 13:11 of this?

Winston, it may have been an original composition. From a commentary about the Columbo series:

"One composer who to me seems perhaps the most versatile is Bernardo Segall, doing everything from eerie/foreboding music ("Playback") to Middle Eastern-style ("A Case of Immunity") to lighthearted ("Last Salute to the Commodore"). Also, though maybe I'm wrong about this, it seems his score for "By Dawn's Early Light" is entirely made up of "source" music (marching bands etc), which I'm impressed by, since it's something so distinct within the series."

Is there no mention of the title music in the opening or closing credits? Even if it's original for the movie, there would normally be a title given in the closing credits somewhere before or after the listing of 4th and 5th assistants to the 3rd grip, etc...

Of course, you might need to rent the actual film video.

There is a listing of music at http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0071346/soundtrack?ref_=tt_trv_snd. It includes National Emblem March (Bagley) and The Thunderer (Sousa), but it isn't either of those because I know both marches and don't recognize the one you ask about. Then there's one titled Dixie by Daniel Decatur Emmett. That may be your music. I'll leave tracking it down to you to see if it's the one. :)

Thanks, Karl and Tucker.

I did bump into the reference to "Segall", but it didn't explicitly answer my question.

I did look at the "listing of music" on imdb. It did mention "Dixie" and "Emmett", but I think "Dixie" probably refers to the southern tune (as per wiki).

Perhaps Tucker, you might be right, that it probably is an original. That's a shame because it sounds "west point"-y or some high school march.

Thanks again.

Jesse (Winston's my diggity dawg).

Karl:

No, I didn't see any mention in the opening and closing credits.

Jesse.
