Beveling is important with the register key pad. This pad should be really high quality (not too squishy) cork.

I had to play with register vent pad clearance to compromise between the "pinch" b-flat and "under-toning" or grunts in the left-hand clarion register.

Use the side trill key with the throat A key when you can, or use resonance fingerings. I think there is a free chart that Ricardo Morales has on this subject ...
