For the UK experts a question about the Boosey and Hawkes 926 bore line of clarinets.
Is it true that Imperial 926 clarinets are tuned a little lower than Emperors?
And I am talking about the internal intonation: whether the instrument is in tune with itself.
I noticed I cannot play my Imperial on A=442Hz because the right hand clarion stays flat.
No problem at 440Hz which was of course the pitch standard in the UK the instrument was designed for.
With my Emperors however, I have no problems to play them at A=442Hz.
Is this by design or is there something wrong with my Imperial 926 clarinet?

I have several B & H instruments, Edgwares, Emperors, 926 Imperials and 1010's. To me, the only one that is noticeably different is the 1010, the rest are all pretty much the same. Any minor differences are, I think, due to differences in venting. I'm tuning to 440.

I found the throat notes to be painfully sharp on Edgwares and Emperors unless the barrel (67mm) was pulled out by around 2mm so the instrument was then in tune with itself.

The original Emperor design is basically an exact copy of the 926 Imperial and produced using all same jigs and tools.
The main difference is that the 926 was built and finished by craftsmen and then tuned, whilst the Emperor was a mass produced version built on a production line by operatives and, if lucky, had a blow test.
