 Re: Counting Question

Actually I dont really know what I am doing. Just trying to work it out. It is a recorded song and I am writing it in key of G and trying to write it close to how it is sung though changing it to how I think the timing sounds and modifying it to how I want it to sound and easy enough to play. I know that sounds complicated but is how I would express it. Funny thing is I can play it but am not sure how to write the note timing. Since I need advice, the actual song is May It Be by Celtic Woman from one of the CD albums. There seems to be pitch variations which can be done with voice but not played easily on clarinet, at least not by me, and I alter these a bit. I thought if i knew how to count the notes I would be better able to adapt it. The actual measure I am using as example is measure #2 after the pickup notes and measure #1. My example is how I was trying to write the notes that I do not really know how to count in the first place. Even if I can play it to suit me I want it to look musically correct. I do recall "tied" is the wrong term for the curved line indicating the pitch goes up but I could not think of the correct term. Not really a schooled musician. Sorry. But I would like to learn how to write what I am playing. Just dont know how to count it.
Maybe it is 4/4 time....I tried that but is didn't seem quite right. Some Enya sheet music was in 3/4 time. I think it IS 4/4 after all.
