Hey everyone!
My student is looking for a 5 Piece Bass Clarinet Case. Anyone know where to get one that's not going to break the bank? She just got a Noblet Bass, but the case that accompanied the instrument lets the bass roll around in it!
I'm looking into the DEG case. Has anyone ever used Hickeys Music before? Every other store doesn't seem to have the case in stock. Amazon has it for $265 and they have it for $128. I want to be sure that the store is actually reputable before sending my student's parents the website to spend more money!

Just checked with Hickeys, and they don't have the case anymore as DEG doesn't make the case anymore. Can anyone think of an option other than the BAM case? Those of you with the Protec 1 piece body case, is there a way to allow it to store the body of the instrument in separate pieces?

Maybe you can find a Buffet/Winter low Eb bass clarinet case? I'm not sure where to find them and at least they used to be made by Winter, which is usually significantly less expensive than BAM but still pretty good. Though they have a much harder inside material than BAM, so it's more difficult for different models to fit.
You can try the Altieri bass clarinet case. I don't know if it's more like a gig bag than case, hard to be sure from the photos.

Depending on what the horn is made of, another idea is to leave the horn together at the center joint and buy a one piece case. They're cheaper. Ridenour 925e's come in a long "one piece" case, even though you can take it apart if you want.

It's looking like the one piece case is going to be the best option for now. It is a wood horn. I wonder if we could put a separator in the case between the two pieces...
I was really hoping for a more compact case as she's fairly small and probably isn't going to be much taller (both of her parents around about 5'2"). Thanks for the help guys!

Another idea.... Ridenour used to use 5 piece cases for his 925e's. Contact him and ask if he has any of the old cases hanging around. Or he might know where to get one. ridenourclarinetproducts.com

I asked Tom Ridenour about an old 5 piece case a couple of months ago. No luck. I bough a BAM and am very happy.

Hurstfarm, if you don't mind a few questions about this case.
Is this case soft all the way to the outside (i.e. like a gig bag) or does it have anything firmer there? How easy (or even not so easy) is it to fold it when closed without an instrument, for example?
Does it have a compartment that would fit A4 size papers and a long peg (about 45cm long)? It's unclear from the photos and they don't mention anything.
Do you know where it is made?

These cases have hard sides (wooden boards). I haven't seen one of the ultra compact ones so not sure about peg storage - whether inside or in a pocket, but an email to the manufacturer should confirm. I suspect this case may be tight for A4 music storage, but their larger one (http://reedandsqueak.com/index.php/cases/compact-bass-clarinet-case-detail) definitely has space. They are from a UK company, and I believe they are also made in the UK.
