I use rue lepic 3'5, and for me that works great. Now I'm curious to try d'addario reeds... Any one has any opinion about them?

Tried the D' Addarios and prefer the original Reserve Classics; mainly use V12s. I found the new ones stuffy and not as responsive as the V12 or Classic.

Cally Laughlin plays the BD5 and uses Traditional #5 - which strikes me as CRAZY hard. Vandoren recommend 3 - 3.5 regardless of the cut.

Quintin, while the 1.13 mm relative large opening and its medium face would strongly suggest the use of a light midrange reed, it's about what works for you.

What others are doing on the BD5 is a bit like asking what size clothes everyone's wearing this Spring. We all have different sizes, we all have different embouchures.

3.5 V12 is right in the pocket. Trying 3.5 V21 also.

I have had success with VD Traditional 3.0. The 3.5s seem a little heavy.

I have also found that the Legere European Cut #3.0 plays great on this mouthpiece, although it seems to be slightly flat vs. cane reeds. If you played the BD5 Series 13, you would likely need a shorter barrel. I presently have the EC 3.25 on order and perhaps that will have a better pitch center.

Just bought a BD5 and tested it with my Selmer Centered Tone clarinet.
Vandoren Traditional 3.0 plays great on this combination.

The resistance on the BD5 is somewhat deceiving. While at first the sound is great later on reeds become somewhat tricky. It is not because the facing is too open or so what..I think the facing drastically opens somewhat toward the tip of the mouthpiece....while seductive at first not sure if this is such a great thing. It certainly is interesting but does not really help the sound production at all.

I wrote about the resistance to Vandoren. They replied and said most players use softer reeds on this mp, like V12 3.0.
