I have just discovered that you should not grease the cork of your new mouthpiece with a glue stick.

Don't get your key oil and superglue mixed up neither.

Now Chris, until you (or somebody) said nothing would safely remove superglue, I would have just thought a quick soak in nail polish remover would solve the "key oil" problem. Perhaps not. I'm anxious to hear the conclusion of the glue stick incident.

And mixing up key oil and bore oil is even more commonplace and almost just as bad.

..not sure if this is serious. If so, isn't most glue stick glue water soluble such that a good steaming might pry the 2 pieces apart?

You are right Dave. A soak in hot water solved it.

Lol! This is a step above the "confusing your Chapstick and cork grease" mistakes!

Mmmmm I've been using Chapstick in place of cork grease for years.

A few years back I had a kid bring a clarinet to me where dad had glued the reed on with superglue when the ligature went missing. A couple of days soaking in water and it came off with a razor blade.

Ouch, Tony. I hope you advised him to use a hose clamp from the hardware store next time...

Sellotape, masking or insulating tape will always do as a temporary or emergency measure.
