Do you have any experience playing on the Ridenour professional mouthpiece?
What is your opinion of it?

Tom's mouthpieces have a close tip opening and, for me, high resistance. He says that this combination lets him play without making adjustments.

The same goes for his instruments.

If this suits your style of playing, by all means go for it.

I use his Erocia mouthpiece occasionally with good results. Interestingly , I've used it on my plastic Jupiter JCL-631-11 with excellent results. Even though it is a 'close lay' mouthpiece I can match it up with a Rico Royal 2,5 reed and still get a good sounding high range with no flatness.

I have a couple of student RE-10s and they play very, very well ... but not particularly high resistance on these models. Looks like Tom uses a similar blank that is used in the Hite Premier and Fobes Debut. Seems to be finished with flat reed table and the side and tip rails are wider than most MPs using this blank.

Very smooth sound and response from note to note and register to register with a nice warmness.

I suspect that his pro MPs may be just my cup of tea, partly because Tom is such an expert on clarinet acoustics and I like MPs with more "hold" ... I use a "medium" reed (3.5 in a 56 Rue Lepic) and with most of the resistance in the MP and horn. I think using a little softer reed has a less brittle, rounder quality, although it might not last as long.

Goal is to eventually have a pro MP or two of his product line, before he decides to retire someday. I am hoping that Tom Ridenour is training a protege to fill his shoes ...
