Hallo,
Can anyone explain me the main differences between the yamaha 221 and the 221-II bass clarinets?
They seems very similar but there will be for sure some differencies....thanks in advance
Tommo

In my humble opinion there is no comparison between the two. The 220 is simply a Vito stencil, whereas the 221-ii is often considered the best plastic bass clarinet avaliable. It wins in terms of intonation, tone and evenness throughout the registers. If you have the extra cash I would say go for the 221-ii. I've played both for an extended period of time btw.

Thanks, but I was asking about the 221 and the 221-II, not about the 220
the 221 is in the two piece configurationlike the 221-II.
even the case looks the same, but I was wondering whete the differencies are....

I think it's worthwhile mentioning the 220 here just so anyone else reading will know it's not a true Yamaha should they happen to see one for sale.
The only way to tell the differences between the 221 and 211II is by comparing them side-by-side if you ever get the chance to. There's not a lot to go on from catalogues apart from the fact they're both plastic bass clarinets built to low Eb with nickel plated keywork and fittings (although some may now have silver plated keywork and fittings).

I have just got the answer directly from yamaha support:
The only difference between the two models (221 and 221-II) lies in the crook/neck. In the 221-II the neck has been changed in order to improve intonation and projection (accordingly to yamaha...)
Hope that helps

Well, that's troubling. For all it's strengths, the 221II tunes very poorly.
