Hello, everyone! I used to frequent this board throughout high school and my first couple of years of college. Glad to be back!
During my high school and college days, my R13 (assembled around 2003) went through countless hours of rehearsals and performances ranging from high school All-State to the university wind ensemble and some philharmonic substitution gigs during that time (I regretfully sold my beautiful R13 A that was used very frequently). I always kept up with regular maintenance on my horns. When I got my horn, my private teacher's technician eased the tension in some of the keys, adjusted the key work and height, added silencers, installed cork pads on the upper joint, and just made the horn that much better.
Having graduated from college a couple of years ago and not playing as much, I am now finding myself wanting to return to and exceed the level of playing that I once was at, but my horn needs some adjusting again (which I completely expected). It hasn't been consistently played since the spring of 2013. There's some slight play in a rod (E/B) on the lower joint, some pads that need replacing, etc. I've been sure to oil the bore at least once a year (I use the Doctor's Products for bore oil, his cleaner, cork grease, etc.), but it could use it again.
I spoke with a technician in the Wichita, KS who seemed extremely knowledgeable and very helpful. My horn will need a couple of pivot screws replaced (per my request), and he has both the full-threaded screws as well as the ones with the nylon near the head of the screw. Do you guys have any recommendations as to which to use? Or any recommendations aside from him removing the keys, replacing the pads that need replacing, cleaning the horn and oiling its bore? It's very possible some of the tone holes could need some work, but that is still TBD.
It doesn't need a full mechanical overhaul, just some attention and adjustments. Getting back into the full swing of things, I wanted to do this right and not miss anything. I would love to send my horn to the Brannens, but wth the cold weather, I simply don't want to have to trust a parcel carrier.

The guys at Wichita Band and Orchestra are pretty amazing at what they do. I'd go with whatever they recommend within the constraint you have of pointedly addressing the 'must do' items.
I'm not familiar with the pivots that have a nylon stopper but it sounds like a good idea.
