Looks like pretty slim pickings out there, especially for TX UIL Class 1 options. Any suggestions of where to go? Student kind of had her heart set on Darkwood by Bennet, but Carl Fischer doesn't publish it anymore. Thanks

After much searching, I was able to find a copy of "Darkwood" a couple of years back. It is much like the more popular "Deepwood" for bass clarinet, but it is a completely different piece of music originally written for alto clarinet. The similarities with Deepwood are striking.
I discovered at the time that Darkwood had been marked "permanently out of print" in most shops -- I may have gotten the last available copy in existence! This is probably owing to the much lesser popularity (and near extinction of the alto clarinet in general).
So, if it is in fact "permanently out of print", what are the copyright rules around the piece?

I agree that Darkwood is a very pretty piece and works beautifully on alto. It may be more of a stretch on the contra-alto although it will work without transposing whereas Deepwood would require transposition of either the solo or piano part.
The clarinet society may have Darkwood in their lending library and a copy could be made of the out of print piece, I'm assuming guilt free and legal.
Here are a few others that might work:
Cummings, "Suite for Contra Alto Clarinet & piano"
Reed, "Scherzo Fantastique"
Reed, 'Afro"
Ritter, "Long Long ago Fantasie"
The Cummings and Ritter pieces are more challenging.
