 N. Virginia/Loudoun County Repair shop
Author: c256

Hello all,

I could not find an answer in the archives, so I'm posing the question here. Is there a repair shop or person recommended in the Northern Virginia/Loudoun County area? I am willing to travel to D.C. if that opens up more possibilities. Thanks

Try Kristin Bertrand, who was formerly the woodwind tech at the Buffet showroom in NY. She does great work and is a lovely person.

Another great repairman in the area, in this case College Park MD, is Patrick Plunk. He currently works for Lee Lachman. You can reach him via:

The two techs in the NOVA/DC area we've recommended are David Spiegelthal, who's already posted in this thread, and Blake Arrington who's in one of the military bands.

We have no business affiliation with either David or Blake.

A second vote for Kristin Bertrand. She just worked on my R-13 and does fantastic work.

a second endorsement for Dave Spiegelthal who has restored/repaired several horns for me, always with excellent results.

I have clients in Northern Virginia. I'll have to give Kristin a call. I didn't know about her.

Does anyone know of an out of town music shop with on site repair (woodwind, brass and strings) and teaching facilities in the Suffolk (VA) area?

I visited them back in 2007 but can't for the life of me remember what they were called. They have a metal Moennig oboe, a French Selmer bassoon and a wooden Theobald Boehm flute in their display shelves and cabinets.

Reason being is they were having trouble getting Buffet parts and I was willing to help them out, but not sure if they're still in business now - hope they are as it's a shame when companies like this fold due to large faceless corporate company domination.

Former oboe finisher
Howarth of London
1998 - 2010

The opinions I express are my own.

Since some of us are endorsing, I'd like to give a strong endorsement of Steven Ocone's work. I've shipped my instruments to him from Florida several times and have been extremely pleased with his work. By the way, he does setup work for the east coast branch of Lisa Canning's business.

Have had work done by both Patrick and Kristin and I would recommend them both. They both did wonderful jobs on my clarinets, are pleasant people, and are very professional in their work.

Hah--for what it's worth, Kristin Bertrand was the one a lot of us couldn't get in to see because she was so busy doing work for all the first-call hotshots in NYC, who evidently prized her work so much. Didn't know she was in the DC area.
