The reed and how you manipulate AIR....... ARE YOUR SOUND.


Broken in properly, a box of reeds should yield at least 6 pretty good reeds (I practice with 8 to 9 out of a box though I rely on 5 to 6 for critical rehearsals and performances).


It is possible that you are using a strength that is slightly too hard for you (airy and resistant reeds). I would suggest going down a half strength or more. You want to hit a mean strength where some are a bit weak and a few are a bit strong but most are just right.
