 Michael Collins Brahms Quintet Live
Author: Paula S

All these years later this man's playing still takes my breath away. Only other person who comes up to the mark for me is Jack Brymer with the Allegri. It is not just the wonderful clarinet lines but the communication with the quartet that is just stunning . Enjoy :-) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1CwND2cqhs

Wonderfully reliable and controlled, beautiful tone, and interesting timing/rythm.

Michael still has a touch of some of the that milky, nasal quality that I enjoyed in some English players, but he has less than in the distant past. Might be changing concept of tone or now using Yamaha clarinets.

On this piece, the recordings of Stoltzman with Tashi are still my favorite.

Tom
