Just thought those who hadn't heard (perhaps some of the US contingent) might be interested to know that Michael Collins has just been awarded an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours.
Also recognised were composers Karl Jenkins and James Macmilllan who are both knighted, violinist Michael Bochmann (also an MBE) and conductor Sir Neville Marriner who becomes a Companion of Honour (a very elite group as there are only 65 at any one time).

I had the pleasure of auditioning for a panel he was part of. He was lovely, never stopped smiling the whole time, he had an aura about him that really took away the nerves.

Michael Collins is a wonderful player with a truly beautiful tone. Here in Kent we have the pleasure / privilege that he is the top artist at the Tunbridge Wells Music Festival most years, and we hear him in wonderfully intimate surroundings.
In recent years he has become Principal Conductor of The City of London Sinfonia, which he often conducts clarinet in hand and continues to dazzle us in the clarinet part.

An M.B.E. (Member of the Order of the British Empire) is not the same as a Knighthood. The correct form would be Mr Michael Collins, M.B.E.

thanks for clearing that up, i suspected something like that (hence my "I believe", though a question mark somewhere would have made it more clear). He SHOULD be a sir though
