 Replacement Reed Cover
Author: CorpBill

This is too small an item to cause me such distress but, I evidently left my mouthpiece cap at a performance a few weeks ago. It was very unusual though, in that it was designed to only protect the first inch and a half or so of the reed. I use a small Buffet case, use an Eddie Daniels Rovner ligature, and simply don't have room for the clunky mp cover that came with it. I can't seem to find a similar replacement, and was hoping that the B.B. might be able to lead me in the right direction. Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure how compatible it is with an Eddie Daniels ligature, but the Rico H-ligature comes with a shorter than usual cap. You'd probably have to buy the cap-lig set. You might be able to Gerry-rig your own by cutting a more conventional cap. I would think you need enough to grip around the screws firmly enough not to fall off in storage.

I like Rover ligatures, but they don't fit with their caps in the old Buffet cases. I leave an old ligature and a standard cap on my mouthpiece when not in use, and put the Rovner ligature in the spot for the extra barrel. It's not a great solution, but it works.

Check the fortissimo ligature (cap). Is this what you're looking for? I'm not sure how to find the cap by itself, but you can do some digging!

Edit to add:
Spoke too soon. Weinermusic has them here!

Thank you Concertmaster3 (and the others who helped), The fortissimo cap is exactly the one that I misplaced. Of all places, I ordered it from Amazon for five bucks. Its main use is to simply protect the tip of the reed (and keep it somewhat wet) while my horn is on its stand. Poco giocoso in Massachusetts again. CorpBill

I lost an older Rovner mouthpiece cap - well, it fell out of my pocket on a stage during a sound check and someone sat behind me in the band picked it up but didn't know who it belonged to, then they later gave it to someone else to give back to me who then went and lost it when they had a clearout of the accumulated junk in their case as they didn't think it was important (you should see how they mistreat their own gear!), so that's it gone for good. Shame really as I've had that for nearly 30 years, but lost it due to the stupidly shallow pockets in my issued band uniform trousers.

The nearest one that's of a similar size to the older Rovner Bb caps was the one designed for an Eb clarinet as the current Bb caps are massive by comparison - more like an alto clarinet cap, so won't fit in the mouthpiece slots in my cases.

I didn't think they were available separately but glad to know they are as I didn't really want to buy the entire ligature/cap combo.
