This was discussed once before in a 2010 thread. Does anyone know what the nominal bore dimensions were for the original Series 10G Bb clarinets? Norman Smale wrote in a post to the 2010 thread,

That would have been a clarinet with some years on it, and Norman didn't mention when the specific clarinet he measured was made. I'm interested in the original factory specs when it was first introduced in the early 1970s. The one website I found in a Google search that lists bore dimensions for a number of clarinets (http://www.clarinetperfection.com/clbore.htm) is blank for the 10G and 10S.

A brochure that I have has a print date of 2-94. It lists the nominal bore of the 10G as 0.574".

Karl - a 2nd brochure with a 1987 copyright lists the bore size for the 10G (A and Bb) as 0.572".

I wonder what part of the bore they meant. Norman's 10G (upper section 15.2 mm - 14.65 mm) would be (rounded) .598" - .577" for comparison.

In my experience in measuring bores, the nominal diameter is usually given as the diameter at the exit of the left hand joint.

At least one clarinet designer tells the story of measuring about a dozen R13s, fresh from across the pond. Upper bore sizes were "all over the place" ... I don't know what this means ... but I had the impression it was several thousands of an inch ... wonder what normal manufacturing tolerances are for wood instruments? Surely not better than +/- 0.001 inches under the best circumstances ...? I'll bet it's a lot more than that ...
