 RC Redesigned?
Author: BbMajorBoy

While doing some browsing for clarinets as I often do, I saw that Buffet has redone their RC model.
Does anyone else have any information on it? E.g. differences from standard RC and playing experiences.
Thanks

That's cool! Cleaning up some small problems ...

I know the R13s seem to have had minor improvements from time to time, although not advertised.

Yeah if we had a choice of hardwood, plastic or hard rubber for the material, that would be really super! A Buffet in Cocobolo would rock!

The only difference I can see from the images is that it has a plate on it above the logo much like the Prestiges and an adjustment screw for the left c/f linkage, it also comes with another barrel which is nice.

They may be cleaning up their tooling and manufacturing process ... being able to hold tighter tolerances. Possibly introducing the most modern technology (if they don't already use it) ... If Buffet could more precisely machine their bores, without the variability in hand reaming, that would be neat ... they could take some lessons from Backun ...

Of course, if Buffet refines their products through more automation and less "touch labor" ... well, I think you lose some of the romance ...

Many years ago, I worked for a company that sold stereo hi-fi gear. One of the owners (a fresh doctorate in marketing) tried to convince Paul Klipsch (of Klipschorn fame) to invest in molds, which would allow them to injection mold the folded bass horn section of the Klipschorn (an all-horn loudspeaker system). After the mold tooling was paid for (not cheap!) you could produce the K-horns for a lot less money, improving profits and passing some savings on to the consumer. The idea was kicked around ... and it was decided that "no-one will buy K-horns made like that!" They are still made by hand, to this day, just like in 1949 ...

So, would you want a clarinet made entirely by machine? Raw materials poured in one end and out pops a Buffet RC B-flat on the other end ...
