Yikes, Mark! I don't think I've gotten as many as 800 scam mails in my entire Internet history. Thanks to your expertise, you're probably the least-likely of any of us to get snookered, but condolences on having to deal with all that garbage.
Maybe this is the place to post another warning, however: the Klarinet e-mail list received several copies of a phishing attempt this week. The title was
>Fw:>
and the message contained nothing but a link. The Klarinet e-mail list doesn't show senders' IDs any more, but (as I warned the list) some of us who have corresponded privately with Richard Bush have also received these bad mailings privately from him. If you get mail from his address right now, don't click on anything in it. Just send it to your provider's spam dump.
After I got the first of these baddies, I e-mailed him privately (using my own address file and not clicking on his reply link, of course), but he never answered. I'm sure he's not the instigator. He's been a respected member of the Klarinet list for years. He's the victim of malware that's abusing his computer to spew junk.
The fake address on that link varies. It's a more dangerous variant on phishing than most such scams, because some of the variants of this link look as if they would go to legitimate addresses, including the New York Times. Beware.
