 Reed Case Suggestions for Legeres?
Author: JamesOrlandoGarcia

Making the switch to Legere. Since the reeds are much thinner than my v12s, my vandoren 4x4 case isn't holding on to them as tightly. Any suggestions on what may work better and may not be too expensive?

Good and cheap, always good - the LaVoz four reed plastic reed holder (and that should be more than enough plastic reeds).

I use the Selmer 10 reed case---have used them for Legeres since 2001---never had a problem.

There's a Rico Reed Vitalizer case that will work well. You won't need the humidity control packs, but its a good, durable, useful case.

Anything that applies slight pressure to hold the reed still should work. The LaVoz holders Paul mentions will work. I have a fistful of Reed-Guard type holders (four reeds per holder) with Vito on them that I inherited over my years of teaching (the store wouldn't take them back for sanitary reasons) that work well. I keep four Legeres win my case using one of these.

You don't have the problem with plastic that you do with cane of uneven evaporation from top and bottom surfaces, so exposure to air isn't an issue, and the reed can be thoroughly dried before storing it, so mold shouldn't be a problem, either.

I also use the plastic LaVoz. The reeds have never fallen out or been damaged.

A layer or two of scotch tape/masking tape/duct tape perhaps.

The standard Rico Reedgard cases are OK for the Legere Classic and Quebec, not good for the Signatures. The Signatures go too far into the holder and might crunch the tip.

I use the old LeBlanc with the rubber O-rings for the Signatures. You don't have to hold Legere reeds as tightly flat, because they don't normally warp.

I think those may be the same as the Vito ones. I've had no trouble carrying Signatures around in my case using them.
