I have a drawer full of wonderful ligatures. That is why I couldn't have been more surprised when I broke my Vandoren (black) M/O ligature and then sat staring at it wondering how I was going to get through rehearsal. It only occurred to me after I no longer had the M/O available to me how much I had come to rely on it. Yes, there are others in my arsenal that I have found to be a bit better on some fronts, but for ease of use, compactness, and sonic results I have not found any other ligature that does all these things so well.

And yes, I was on the phone to Woodwind Brasswind so fast it made my wife's head spin. I will have a replacement in only a few days and I don't know if I'll be able to stand the wait.

On a related note, I took the opportunity to order the "Masters Version Only" model (yes the ligature designed specifically for the Masters Mouthpiece now has a version even more specifically designed for the Masters (and it costs $10 more). So I throw myself on the sword to answer another burning Board question. Is there really anything different about this one?

Only time will tell.

 Just a quick correction....

Since your M/O ligature broke and you needed a replacement, technically, the sword threw itself on YOU!

lol.

Alexi <- who cycles between three ligatures depending on mouthpiece and/or feel of the reed.

Retired, playing more sax than clarinet, but still playing clarinet and still loving it!

I have just received my new Masters Ligature, reconfigured to be MORE specific to the Masters Mouthpiece. Ok, it does seem a bit smaller and I believe the "pocket" is a bit more angled. The ONLY thing this would do on a Masters mouthpiece would be to ensure that it does not 'close' as much as the original version. I seem to recall that on the Masters mouthpiece (not what I am doing right now) the original would be completely tightened at about the mid point on a reed. I guess if you like your ligature "up high," then there wasn't enough tightening ability. Now you don't have to worry about that.

On a non Masters (what I AM doing now) I am just about at max opening to have the ligature at the center of a V21. So, I guess it would be best on the Masters mouthpiece but still no significant impact on my use of the ligature (except it costs a little more).
