Welcome! I'm sure you've already found some really useful information, and probably others have posted questions you never knew you needed to know the answers to as well. Your thoughts would be welcome as well as you move through learning and performing. Just be respectful! (Sure you know that already, too.)

With tongue in cheek satire:

"I, on the other hand Brenda am not so sure we should welcome "Pres-Lives." For that matter, where is your evidence that "Pres-Lives" has found ANY useful information here, be it answers to questions this poster already had, or never thought of to ask. Perhaps your claims are nothing but assumptions, or at best anecdotal!!!

And what makes you think that we'll welcome this poster's questions when they were already addressed in half a sentence, deep within a thread from 2002?" [wink]

====

Of course I kid Brenda and you, in so doing mocking not only my own posts, but those of colleagues, as we debate the merits of the "bottom screw of a Bonade inverted ligature when used in an outdoor performance, where it might rain." [wink]

Joking aside. The forum, its rules, and the moderators' occasional intervention to make sure we abide by their spirit and intention, is what we make of it. I seek an environment where people of all levels can ask question and know that they'll be answered with patience, clarity and regard, referencing sometimes something that's already been discussed on the board.

We should be here, I think, to not simply kick around complex aspects of musicality among professional peers, but simply, to promote clarinet play at all levels and in all genres.

I would encourage you to learn how to use the search features if you haven't already, despite the fact that many of the best of us at times, present company included, have probably not always done their proper "research to asking a question ratio" of due diligence.

Disagreement should be on people's ideas. Not people.

And finally, most important of all [wink] is to know that at the end of the day, if anyone disagrees with my stance, they are 100% wrong, and I am 100% right!!! [wink]

I kid! Nobody knows everything, and I especially don't know everything.

Welcome to the BBoard!

As a Euphonium major back when I was in University, I'll be happy to address any questions you may have about low brass instruments, as well as those regarding clarinet playing.

Just one question ursa, why in the world would anyone intentionally major on euphonium? I could understand majoring on bagpipes or accordion.

Wisco, I was a Music Ed major and had won a scholarship on tuba. Unable to play tuba at University due to a disability, I downgraded, er, changed my instrument of study to euphonium.

Life is so much better as a clarinetist.
