Hi everyone,
I am an amateur orchestra player. We are now working on the Malher's 3rd symphony. I play the 1st cl. part with no problem thanks to answers to my questions in this BB board. But my friend bothers to play Eb cl. part due to the difficulty of high notes and fingerings.
I was told that the book titled "Orchestral Studies for the E-flat Clarinet" by Peter Hadcock, has a lot of suggestion and alternative fingerings of this piece. I have made inquiries about the stock of the book at many stores which I found it in the store's sites, but they said that they don’t have it due to the out of stock in the publisher.
I also searched it in the library in my country but couldn't get. Moreover, it is almost impossible to find a person who has this book in my country.
Does anybody know how I can get this book?

The Working Clarinetist: Master Classes With Peter Hadcock is available from a number of different vendors. That's the one I'm using to learn alternate fingerings for the Eb. It's a great book. Kind of spendy, but worth it.

Thank you for your suggestion. I will order that book, although it is a bit expensive...
Also, I found a book "Orchestral Excerpts for Piccolo (E-flat and D) Clarinet Vol.3" by Merrer which seems to include Mahler3.

Working Clarinetist is a good book but it isn't specifically for effer. In fact there isn't much on Eb just a few pages in the back. There are alternative fingerings, but not as good. Good book overall.
Orchestral Studies for the E-flat Clarinet supposedly cleared copyright hurdle and should be coming out soon, can't wait.

perhaps he finds what works for him. Sometimes it is easier to play half step lower/higher and use alternative fingering or lip note/gambare

I just pulled out my copy of the Hadcock excerpts for Eb clarinet. FWIW, the book does not contain an exhaustive collection of alternate fingerings for the Eb. Rather it is a collection of excerpts from important/difficult Eb parts in which Hadcock occasionally recommends specific fingerings for specific situations. Often the fingering is context-specific.
The book does include excerpts from Mahler's 3rd symphony for both Eb1 and Eb2. However, there are not a lot of fingering suggestions for this piece. For the first Eb part, Hadcock suggests a fingering for altissimo A and a fingering for a trill between altissimo F# and G# but that's it as far as fingering suggestions go. There are no fingering suggestions for the second Eb part.
Most of the fingerings Hadcock suggests throughout his Eb book are actually "standard" altissimo fingerings that can be found in Tom Ridenour's fingering chart. Hadcock simply identifies the specific choice that worked well for him in a particular context. As it turns out, though, neither of the two fingerings Hadcock suggests for Mahler 3 are in the Ridenour book.

Yes, it IS expensive. $50 for a paperback...ugh! I would imagine the first book that Hadcock published, which is no longer in print, will never again BE in print so this second book will have buyers. If you're serious about improving on the Eb, which is a beast, it's a necessity.
