I'm rarely as perplexed about the purpose of new equipment (or variations on old equipment) as I am about the BG Reed Saver. A friend and section mate on a recent job showed me these little pieces of plastic - he was using them and was sure they were making his reeds last longer and play better.

I bought a 3-pack and actually put them on two reeds. But I'm having a really hard time figuring out what they're supposed to be doing. I think I can imagine some protective quality for players who use metal ligatures. But I'm using an all-cloth Rovner that doesn't make any marks or impressions that I can see.

What am I missing?

Karl

I'd like to say, with sorrow, "the money you spent on them."

Sorry. Someone please prove me wrong with more than anecdotal evidence.

I agree. I used them and saw no difference. If anything I feel like they hindered the reed's vibration.
