 Clarinet building

Hi! I'm a young clarinet repairer but I'd like to build a clarinet with 6 or 7 keys like the 18th century ones. Does anyone know any book or website where I could find measures and other information?
Thanks you.

"The Amateur Wind Instrument Maker" by Trevor Robinson will get you started with the basics of the 2-key clarinet.

Best try one of those before you get more ambitious.

There was a book published in the UK in the '70s titled something like "Woodwind Instruments for Schools" which had the plans and measurements in it for making a 1 key flute, a 2 keyed oboe, a 5 keyed clarinet (and another one with saddle mounted keys) and a curtal (bassoon) - but I can't find anything about it online.

Former oboe finisher
Howarth of London
1998 - 2010

The opinions I express are my own.

You may be interested to look at cambridgewoodwindmakers.org - Daniel Bangham is a leading exponent in this field and if nothing else may be able to point you at some suitable literature or drawings etc.

Chris P- I have that book right here (found a 2nd hand copy for $5).
Woodwind for Schools, Peter Tomlin
The Dryad Press, first ed 1973
SBN 85219 089 0
The clarinet instructions go for 19 pages so I might be inspired to make them into a pdf... the measurements are in metric, but often referencing drill bit sizes etc such as " 37/64" " which I assume are imperial.

and I second the cambridge woodwind makers suggestion. I did the clarinet building course there and made a fine copy of a Simiot instrument.
